“And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry”

1st Timothy 1:12

As we look at this verse, I believe that we have an excellent portrait of God’s plan for a believer who wishes to enter into ministry (service) for God.

While we remain here on earth the flesh is ever present, seeking to taint even the purest of desires. This becomes painfully clear as we examine our ideas of how we should go about serving God. To a believer, the cross of Christ is a symbol of the great love, commitment, and sacrifice it took to bear our sins. In times of weakness the cross can be used as a comfort, and in times of strength it can be used as a firm foundation on which to stand. It is easy then to see why Christians often boast in the cross.
